I was relieved to see the Winter 2007 "Interweave Knits" yesterday. Was beginning to worry that my IK subscription would suddenly go the way of Vogue Knitting, with far too much "hip" stuff. I just don't do edgy. While the Tilted Duster on the cover of the Fall issue was fascinating in construction, I personally could never pull it off -- otherwise, the Tangled Yoke cardy was the only thing I was even remotely interested in. (You can take the girl out of the library, but you can't ... oh, never mind.)
But there are in fact four projects in the new issue that have caught my eye. (All photos from here.)
Pam Allen's Refined Aran Jacket. Love this, love it backwards and forwards and maybe even upside-down. Get in the car, girls, we're going to the yarn shop!
Jess's Gansey, by Elizabeth Lovick. (The pdf pattern is available only if you sign up for the Knitting Daily newsletter.) The model isn't helping the sweater much, I'm afraid -- and it doesn't fit her well at the armholes -- but I like the idea of tweaking the gansey shape.
This one --
really speaks to me for some reason, possibly just because I get such a kick out of Old Shale. It's Cathy Payson's Brushed Lace Cardigan. I'm not sure about the colors, so I would probably do something more boring, I mean subtle, like shades of grey.
This, on the other hand, Eunny Jang's Ivy League Vest, is wild in the best possible way. Again, tweaking the shape of a traditional garment. I've had a hankering for colorwork lately, too.
Now, if only the new "Getting More Hours Out of Your Day" magazine would arrive!
I agree with you - I'm pleased with their direction under Eunny. I love that they're focusing on the technical side of knitting.

I was relieved, too, when mine arrived yesterday! I love RAJ, too! Sweater Girl Pullover has possibilities...and Henley Perected.
And the vest, too, tho' it won't "love" me. Nothing horizontal on THIS body...
Still, after the Fall issue, I breathed a deep sigh of relief!
(((hugs)))

Those - and the henley perfected - were my favorites too. Also the cute "subway" mittens.

Mine came yesterday and I'm really enjoying it--there are a bunch of sweaters in there that I like, and I love that they chose a "classic" theme for the issue . . . nothing too weird.
Oh, and I did like the Tilted Duster in the last issue, I just don't know if I want to KNIT it (grin).

I totally agree on the Refined Aran Jacket--love it, love it, love it. Overall, a very nice issue with lots of classy, stylish stuff.

Oh, I really like the first cardigan and the vest.

Totally agree with you. I'm happy that IK is keeping it real with Eunny at the helm.

I'm trying to convince myself I don't need the Aran Jacket or the Brushed Lace Cardigan. I don't know how well I'm doing so far. Maybe Brushed Lace all in one color will break me.

Yes, I had the same fear about IK and was very relieved by the new issue! I really love that aran jacket on the cover, and am hoping I even have some stash yarn that might work!

Aren't those just the coolest patterns? I think I fell in love with the exact same ones! I couldn't help but notice, though, that the sweaters didn't seem to fit the models very well. The first cardigan (red) seems too short at the wrists and hem, and so does Eunny's. I wonder if they're supposed to be that way? Thank goodness knitters can tweak things!

I love the refined aran and the vest too! And I really want to try out the gansey, just for the sake of being a gansey. I don't beleive in short sleeves on something wooly, it goes right into the tank top with turtleneck category.
