I read Slade House not long ago - it was ok, not really creepy, but no Bone Clocks. I haven't read Cloud Atlas either. On my list. And that picture of the Granny Sq Vest is why I have an aversion to Granny Squares for the most part. Too many bad clothes memories!

I had a cardigan like that but, being born shortly after WWII, wool was in short supply so the skirt and top would have been out of my Mother's ability to buy enough yarn. 2d though, that made me smile! 2 pence was probably a reasonable amount to pay for a pattern in those days.
