Really a tablespoon of baking powder? Won't that make them taste metallic?

Yes, really! That’s the standard substitution for self-rising flour, 1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder per cup of flour, though I usually skimp on the ½ teaspoon of salt. I’ve never found an "off" taste to the scones.

I just came across that blue and white pot, and bought it because it reminds me of the famous Royal Copenhagen No.1 (https://www.replacements.com/webquote/rcoblfp.htm) – come to find out it’s Romanian, of all things!
