I would be tempted to splice the yarn for the crochet at the end of each square, rather than starting a new skein, that way you would have no bits of yarn left over.

Your lace-work is rather lovely, well done.

At least you won't have more trouser alterations when Julia 'retires' from the band.

The sampler is looking very good. I do admire your patience.
